Coventry City was founded in 1883 as Singers FC, a team for the employees of the Singer sewing machine company. The club changed its name to Coventry City in 1898. The early years were spent in local competitions before joining the Football League in 1919.

The club's golden era came in the late 1960s and early 1970s, culminating in their FA Cup victory in 1987. This was the first major trophy in the club's history and marked a high point for Coventry City.

Coventry City has been home to several legendary players, including Jimmy Hill, who was pivotal in the club's development and success. Ian Wallace and Sandy MacIver are also celebrated figures in the club's history.
