Coventry City is taking a significant step towards sustainability with a new solar power initiative for schools. The city council has confirmed plans for three schools to adopt solar technology, marking the beginning of a broader program that aims to involve all educational institutions in Coventry City. This initiative is part of a strategic energy partnership with energy company E.On, which has submitted the plans to the council. The goal is to move away from traditional fossil fuels, ultimately reducing energy bills and reliance on gas and oil. The initial schools selected for this program are Grange Farm Primary School, Manor Park Primary School, and Tiverton School. Deputy council leader Lynnette Kelly emphasized the importance of this project, stating that it is just the start of a larger effort to create more sustainable and energy-efficient buildings in the city. With £2.3 million in government funding secured, Coventry City is poised to lead the way in green energy solutions for schools. Additionally, the council has approved separate plans for construction and demolition work at Spon Gate Primary School, further enhancing the educational infrastructure in the area.
