Coventry City's Frank Lampard is facing a significant challenge in the upcoming season, given the club's lack of resources compared to their Premier League rivals. However, both Sunderland and Leeds have shown that with a little ambition and smart recruitment, you can thrive, not just survive, in the top flight. First on my shopping list would be a player with some experience of the league, a leader in the heart of midfield to set the standards and be a marquee name to show Coventry's intent. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg would be an ideal recruit. As skipper for both club and country, perhaps he might not seem the most attainable target. But I bet not many Sunderland fans thought they could attract a Granit Xhaka, either. The Premier League is the biggest show in town, the place where all the top players want to play. Although he's turning 31 this summer, he's still in elite condition. He played the most minutes of any Marseille player in 2025-26, and had the second-most touches of the ball in Ligue 1 behind Vitinha. He'd be invaluable.
