Coventry City secured a vital 3-1 Premier League victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. The win lifts the Sky Blues out of the bottom three and up to 19th place in the table with six points from eight games, a record of two wins and six losses.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Taiwo Awoniyi doubled the advantage twenty minutes later, and Jack Rudoni added a third shortly after half-time, assisted by Victor Torp. Sunderland's only reply came from the penalty spot through Enzo Le Fée in the 67th minute.

Disciplinary issues

The three points were tempered by late disciplinary problems for the visitors. Victor Torp was booked early for a foul, and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto also received a yellow card. The game ended on a sour note as defender Omar Alderete was shown a red card deep into stoppage time after receiving a second yellow.

The result marks Coventry's third win in their last five Premier League matches, a run that includes victories over Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. This recent sequence of three wins and two losses follows a 0-1 home defeat to Fulham and a 1-3 loss at Tottenham. They have now scored six goals this season but conceded fifteen, leaving them with a goal difference of minus nine.

With the win, Coventry moved out of the relegation zone, now sitting 15 points behind league leaders Manchester City. The team's recent form shows three wins and two losses from their last five outings.

Coventry City will travel to face 11th-placed Everton at Goodison Park on Friday, November 6. The squad will be without several players for that match, with A. Amenda, J. Eccles, L. Woolfenden, H. Wright, and B. Thomas currently sidelined.
