In the Premier League era, only four other clubs have begun a season with four straight defeats and no goals: Derby County in 1899-1900, Stoke City in 1906-07, Preston North End in 1924-25 and Crystal Palace in 2017-18. Since the league's 1992 rebrand, only Southampton in the 2012-13 season avoided relegation after such a start.
Former England striker Wayne Rooney highlighted the psychological impact of the recent 5-0 home loss to Brighton. "The big problem for Coventry is that losing by a margin of 5-0 just takes all the confidence away from the players," he told reporters added, "What's important is the squad stays together and is on the same page. They have got to dig in."
