Jamie Allen is still searching for a new club more than two months after his Coventry City departure. The 31-year-old midfielder admits he expected to be signed by now as the transfer window closes.
"I have been quite surprised myself, to be fair," Allen said. "I thought I would be in somewhere by now."
His contract at the Coventry Building Society Arena expired this summer, ending a five-year spell with the Sky Blues. Allen made over 150 appearances for the club, contributing to their rise from League One to the Premier League. He was part of the squad that secured promotion via the play-offs in 2023.
Championship interest
Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City are understood to be among the Championship clubs who have considered a move for the experienced midfielder. Allen’s availability on a free transfer represents a low-risk option for clubs looking to add depth and know-how to their squads.
Coventry, meanwhile, have started their Premier League campaign with three consecutive defeats, leaving them bottom of the table. They are yet to score a goal this season, conceding five, and sit nine points behind leaders Manchester City after a 1-0 loss at the Etihad last weekend.
Allen’s search for a new employer continues as the domestic season moves into its second month. A positive result is needed to kickstart their top-flight campaign.
